Asthma Treatment
The best and the most effective asthma treatment start with identifying and eliminating triggers that cause asthma. Asthma is caused due to different triggers or factors in different individuals. Most asthma patients are allergic to certain allergens, avoiding or limiting exposure to such allergens drastically reduces the severity of asthma condition.
Doctors work with asthma patients and devise most optimal treatment plan for each individual patient. Usually they suggest a complete self management plan which aid in controlling asthma in day to day life by avoiding or limiting the main triggers that can cause trouble. Doctors also suggest an emergency action plan which must be followed during asthma attacks, such attacks are some times life threatening and require immediate attention.
Though using asthma medicines to treat allergies does help many patients in controlling asthma but prolonged over use of these medicines for immediate relief can lead to a status called asthmaticus, an austere asthma attack in which medication won’t work and patients require immediate mechanical ventilation. So consuming over doses of strong quick relief medicines must always be avoided.
Also asthma treatment should be flexible and should be changed with severity of asthma condition. Meaning to say doctors must adjust asthma treatment plan depending on the present condition of asthma patient. This requires regular checkups and monitoring so that when severity of asthma is controlled the dosage of medicines should also be decreased.
Asthma quick relief treatments include short acting inhaled brochodilators. They provide immediate relief by relaxing muscles around bronchi thereby easing respiratory system to breathe properly. Long term asthma medicines like inhaled corticosteroid are prescribed by doctors to control persistent asthma. But they must be taken regularly and as prescribed by the doctor. If regular treatment is stopped abruptly or taken irregularly then asthma condition can get worse and result in severe life threatening attacks.
Best asthma treatment plan should aim at reducing severity and recurrence of asthma attacks, identifying and treating symptoms of asthma, limiting and eliminating factors causing asthma, using less quick-relief medications and continuing normal activities without symptoms.
